Alice G. Duckett

As an Educator with 31 years of teaching experience the Shadowpurr-r-rPress Author worked mostly in Marshall County, Albertville City School Systems of Alabama, and Pensacola, Florida. She is the Author of two books... "Digging From Attics to Basements" - a how-to workbook on compiling Family History for children, and "One Step At A Time" - which encourages children to use "Thought Process" and solve their problems through thinking things out. The Books accompany my Speaking Platform. I enjoy presenting stories, readings and special programs in school settings. I am also working on a series of nostalgic vignettes about growing up in rural North Georgia.

You'll have a great time looking "From Attics to Basements" (and even in Cemeteries) to see what you can discover to tell you more about your family. Memories - Ties to the Past & Future

I am a former resident of Cartersville, GA, being born and raised there. In high school I was in the CHS band, a majorette, and started my interest in writing in the high school journalism class. I wrote a column in the CHS school news paper, then called "The Chipper".

In college at Auburn University I was in the Auburn band, a college majorette there and a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. I wrote several pieces for the Auburn newspaper, "The Plainsman". I met my husband in the Auburn band as he was the Drum Major. After college I lived a year in Cartersville while my husband was in Viet Nam as a Marine helicopter pilot.

Later we moved to Florida, Louisiana and Alabama and I continued to visit often in Cartersville seeing relatives, parents, sister, and friends. I've kept up with a number of residents through the years and always attend my CHS high school reunions. My dad, Mr. J. Hugh Gilreath, Jr. (now 96 years of age) still lives on Hillside Drive in Cartersville. He ran the Gilreath Hardware Store on Main Street for many years. My mother, the late Marion N. Gilreath (who died at 90 years of age), was librarian at Cartersville Middle School. All this is to point out that I have strong ties to Cartersville and still love coming back often...
